The Poudre River Trail begins here.

This 86-acre stretch of the Cache la Poudre River is unspoiled and teeming with animals. The trailhead is situated near the Poudre River and 71st Avenue intersection. 71st Avenue leads north out of Greeley. After passing North Ridge High School, 71st Avenue will take a few more bends. To the left, just after the second turn, is a parking space. The bright red barn will help you locate the area. Parking is plentiful, and there is a restroom, but there is no running water near Greeley CO.

Signature Bluffs Natural Tract contains a big pond, cottonwood stands, cattails, and meadows in a wide area of natural river habitat. On the pond, you can go fishing or rent canoes and kayaks (a fishing license is required). There are also some dirt routes that can be used to return to more remote regions. This is a fantastic spot for bird watching and seeing other animals. (Source: poudretrail.org)

More About Signature Bluffs Natural Area

After crossing 83rd Avenue and heading east from the Poudre Learning Center, the trail makes an abrupt right bend to the north before turning east again. As it travels between the base of the Signature Bluffs and the Poudre River, it narrows a little. It passes a bridge after the bluffs and continues on to the Signature Bluffs Natural Area. This is a really lovely part of the route, however, it is frequently flooded in the early summer.

The Signature Bluffs Natural Area, which is distinguished by its red barn, contains a fishing pond. It's also a great spot for wildlife viewing. This trailhead is located in the middle of the path and is a great starting point for either heading east or west.

Poison ivy can be seen on both sides of the trail along the sandstone cliffs. This is the only stretch of the path where the width must be less than 10 feet. Travel in a single file through "the narrows" and exercise caution as rockfall is typical in this area near Greeley CO.

The headgate of the Greeley Canal #3, also known as the #3 Ditch, is located here. This ditch runs southeast to southwest through Greeley and was the first ditch to water the Union Colony's crops (Greeley).
