TADs, or Temporary Anchorage Devices, are utilized in some orthodontic situations to help shift teeth into a straighter position when braces are unable to do so on their own, resulting in a far more efficient treatment. The titanium mini-screws (also known as mini-implants or micro-implants) are a fixed device that can be used to push, pull, lift, or intrude teeth that are being straightened when used in conjunction with braces. Dr. Hardy can employ TADs to reposition teeth in previously impossible directions and quantities because they don't move.
Frequently Asked Questions About TADs
How are TADs inserted?
Dr. T. C. Hardy at Taft Hill Orthodontics will first examine your teeth to see if TADs are required for your orthodontic treatment. The gum tissue and jaw area will then be numbed before the TADs are implanted into your jawbone. The insertion procedure will be painless because your gum tissue and jaw area have been numbed. Our patients usually take a day or two to get used to the device. Dr. Hardy will remove the TADs once your orthodontic treatment goals have been met or when he believes they are no longer necessary for teeth straightening.
Can I make TADs more comfortable?
If you have difficulty after having your TADs installed, you can relieve your symptoms with over-the-counter pain relievers.

Is it difficult to clean my TADs?
TADs don't require you to adjust your dental hygiene routines or frequency; clean your teeth three times a day, and brush and use antimicrobial mouthwash at least twice a day.
If you haven't already established these good oral hygiene practices, now is the time to do so. There are very few issues with these devices as long as your gums are kept healthy.
